Lazy Lane Farm’s Edgewater posted a hard fought victory in the $75,000 DTHA Governors Day Stakes at Delaware Park today.

With A.R. “Rosie” Napravnik aboard, the 4-year-old son of Lion Heart ran down Alma d’Oro, with David Cohen, in the final strides before notching a neck victory. Doc’s Friend, with Jose Caraballo, cut early fractions of :47.20 for the half mile and 1:11.68 for the three-quarters mile, before fading to third 5 ¼-lengths behind the winner. Edgewater covered the mile and an eighth in 1:50.12 and returned $4.40 as the favorite in the field of seven.

The Kentucky-bred conditioned by Rodney Jenkins raised his career mark to five wins from eleven starts with earnings of $155,120. The DTHA Governors Day Stakes is the first career stake victory for Edgewater.
