Family Fun Day series starts on Opening Day April 30th

The Family Fun Day series, sponsored by Delaware Park and the Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen Association (DTHA), is slated to begin on the 74th Opening Day for live racing at Delaware Park on April 30.

The Family Fun Day series will feature carnival type activities and food in the famous picnic grove overlooking the picturesque paddock at Delaware Park. Activities will include a Moonbounce, Super Slide, Pony Rides, Balloon Sculptor, Face Painter and Dunk Tank, which will be occupied by jockeys, trainers and other racing personalities with proceeds benefiting the Permantently Disabled Jockeys Fund.

In addition to the country style barbecue offered in the Grove, carnival type concessions will be added to the offerings.

The schedule for the Family Fun Day series is April 30, May 28, June 18, July 9, August 13, and September 3 with a special Fan Appreciation Day scheduled for September 17. The grove activities and concessions will open at 11:00am with a daily first race post time of 1:15pm. Admission and parking are free.

After taking a week break, live racing will resume on Kentucky Derby Day May 7th. Live racing will be held on Saturdays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Closing day for the 106-day meet is slated for Saturday, November 5. Daily first race post time is 1:15 p.m. Delaware Park’s premier races, the Delaware Oaks (Gr. II) and the Delaware Handicap (Gr. II), will be held on July 9 and July 16, respectively.
