Major Handicap Contests Highlight Tournament Schedule
Prize money worth approximately $40,000 and trips to Las Vegas are up for grabs at Delaware Park’s Major Handicap Tournaments on Saturday, June 18, and Saturday, October 15,which highlight the tournament schedule at Delaware Park this year.
Opening Day for the 74th season of live racing at Delaware Park is slated for Saturday, April 30.
The top five finishers from each contest will win entry into the 2011 Coast Casino Horse Players World Series in Las Vegas, plus airfare and room. Based upon 400 entrants, prize amounts are as follows: $20,000 for first place, $7,000 for second place, $4,000 for third place, $2,000 for fourth place, $1,000 for fifth place, $400 for sixth through tenth place and $100 for 11th though 50th place.
One hundred percent of entry fees are returned to the players in prize monies. The entry fee is a non-refundable $100, with $200 as a betting stake. A maximum of two entries per person is allowed. The minimum wager is $20 per race with a 10-race minimum.
The remaining eight handicapping tournaments are scheduled for May 14, June 25, July 16, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 26 and December 10. These monthly handicap contests will consist of six tracks, maximum two entries per person. The purse distribution, based upon 150 entries, is as follows: $3,000 for first place, $1,500 for second, $900 for third and $600 for fourth. The winner of each monthly contest wins entry, airfare and room in the 2011 Coast Casino Horse Players World Series in Las Vegas.
After taking a one-week break, live racing will resume on Kentucky Derby Day, May 7. Live racing will be held on Saturdays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Closing day for the 106-day meet is slated for Saturday, November 5. Daily first race post time is 1:15 p.m. Admission and general parking are free.
