Rules R Rules going for three straight in Blue Hen
The pressure is on this weekend when Fieldstone Stable’s Rules R Rules seeks her third straight victory while running in the $75,000 Blue Hen Stakes this Saturday at Delaware Park. The mile and a sixteenth test for 2-year-old fillies has attracted a field of nine.
In her most recent outing, the Florida-bred, conditioned by Delaware Park-based trainer Michael Gorham, won a $36,000 six furlong allowance by 7 ¼-lengths at Penn National on September 4.
Previously, Rules R Rules made her career debut with a second place finish going five furlongs against $25,000 maiden claimers at Delaware Park on August 12, followed by breaking her maiden by 6 ¾-lengths in a five furlong $25,000 maiden claiming at Delaware Park on August 26.
Even though Rules R Rules made her debut in the claiming ranks, her trainer Michael Gorham has always thought a lot of his filly.
“She has always trained very well and when she ran second her first-time out, I thought she ran a real good race,” said trainer Michael Gorham. “She just got out footed early that day and could not catch the winner. She came back and broker her maiden impressively and followed with a great performance at Penn National against allowance company. She is doing real well and she has been training good. I worked her six furlongs the other day. She worked good and galloped out real strong, so everything appears to be on go.”
The three questions that loom regarding Rules R Rules are whether she can handle the two-turns, the longer distance and how will she handle facing stakes competition for the first time?
“That is always a concern,” said Michael Gorham. “She is not a very big filly. She is obviously pretty good sprinting, but she did not have any problem with a six furlong race last time and she was kind of widening her lead in the end. Hopefully, she will stretch out without a problem and the competition is going to be a lot stiffer then she has faced before, but hopefully she will handle it.”
