Spot Handicapping Plays for Saturday, May 7 (Derby Day)
Third Race
Wildcat Code lands in wide open 14 horse maiden claimer. But the daughter of Forest Wildcat hails from the barn of leading trainer Juan Vazquez and takes drop monetarily. In her most recent, she was defeated as prohibitive favorite, but she chased some quick early fractions before tiring. Expect her to get more comfortable early fractions today which should translate into an improved effort.
Fourth Race
First two career efforts for Self were both positive efforts. The 3-year-old gelded son shortens up to six furlongs for first time in career and returns to surface on which he had his best effort. Rocco Jr. gets the call and the Kentucky-bred could score at nice price.
But he faces some possible tough foes. Ra gets the rail in career debut which could be challenging for a firster, but he had sharp work at Parx on April 26, is a son of Forest Wildcat and hails from the barn of Scott Lake, who is capable of getting a maiden to win at first asking.
Seventh Race
Red Dirt Road drops monetarily for solid stable and loves the Delaware Park with a record of nine wins, three seconds and a third from 23 starts in Stanton.
Ninth Race
Silver Magnus posted a big effort in most recent in Oaklawn Park. The son of Trippi hails from solid outfit and Jeremy Rose gets the call.
An interesting entry in the race is Homerun Berti. Homerun Berti, who recently posted a 3 ½-length going six furlongs at Keeneland on April 8, is out of the dam Allamerican Bertie who won the 2002 Delaware Oaks. Homerun Berti, sports a Delaware Park record of three wins from six starts.
