Congratulations to Larry Jones and his crew for helping Havre de Grace win Horse of Year! Mr Porter sure knows horses. Thanks, also, to Mr Dutrow for his expertise in getting her where she is today. I am breathless every time I see her race. She is 'graceful'. Her near-win in July was awesome. Hope to see her again at Delaware Park.
2012 is going to be good.
Delaware Park = 75 years!!! Wow! Congratulations to you, too.

Thanks, Chris, for letting us know about Irish Jack. He sure does/did a good job of reporting the Horses. I really enjoyed his columns and miss them and him. I am not able to get to Del Park as often as I wish but the live VIdeo feed is GREAT! Seeing Kent Desormeaux as well as Calvin Borel racing here was an extra special treat. Tell whoever is responsible thanks a bunch. Delaware Park puts little old Delaware on the map. Your blogs are very informative & I enjoy reading themvery much. Good job. Please continue.
Thanks again & hope to get to Del Park this saturday.

Hello Chris,
The other day, I got into a nostalgic mood and wondered if anyone remembered those great boxing matches in Delaware Park's stable area. I see that you make mention of it in your first blog entry.
My father, a great horse racing fan, took me to the matches in the summertime in the 1960s. Those had to be the greatest boxing matches that I ever saw! These fights were toe-to-toe slugfests - but the participants also knew how to box!
I can still remember some of the names. There was Jack Kennedy - an Irish force of nature - a red-haired, curly-haired pugilist who was as pugnacious a slugger that ever stepped into the ring, but he was a discplined one. I never saw him lose a fight. I did see him get knocked on his butt one time (the one and only time). He came up dazed and glassy-eyed, but after taking his standing eight-count, he responded by scoring a devastating knockout within the next 30 seconds. It was inspiring!
I also remember watching some of the guys who went on the professional careers, like Ronnie Branch and Joe Barbizzi.

In response to: Delaware Park cancels after second race on Tuesday; Wednesday live racing cancelled
Chris Sobocinski [Member]
Thank you for your comment and concern. The decision to start the live racing card on Tuesday, July 6, was a joint decision made between racetrack management, the racing commission, the horsemen and the jockeys. It was a joint decision made considering every factor and concern. Additionally, each individual, jockey or trainer, had the choice on whether or not they would have liked to participate on that day’s race card. The 78 horse nine race card only had ten scratches and two of those were also eligible scratches. Finally, every precaution was taken on the track to assure the safety of the horses and jockeys which included sending the horses to the track from the paddock five minutes before post time, ample water supply in various locations, and racing officials being on the highest alert. The first two races were run without incident and at this point it was decided to cancel the remainder of the card because of the excessive heat.

I am shocked that Delaware management would even try to run races when the temp. is hovering around 101. How hot before racing will be canceled??????? Don't you have any respect for horses and jockeys. I live in Laurel,Maryland and the media was telling people not to let pets outside for any length of time. Where has the respect for the horse and jockey gone?????? There is no wonder racing and race tracks continue to decline. It seems that race track management has not a clue. I refuse to wager on Delaware because of your disrespect for animals and humans!!!!!!!

in past years one could fine the stakes nominations in the "racing" section of Delaware Park's website. I went to the "horsemen" section under "racing" and all i get are nominations for the betsy ross and liberty bell stakes. i'll be heading back to delaware as i do every july to partake in DelPark's premier events. I liked to see who was nominated for the Oaks and the DelCap. Any info would help. Thanks.

Nick - There will be Let It Ride & 3-Card Poker among the different games we're getting. I have been in several meetings where this was discussed.
Liz - Yes, these are real table games like you see in Atlantic City & Las Vegas. We'll have chips and cards you can hold. We already have electronic table games, but they aren't considered real table games by the state.

Eric,
All I know that poker will be here sometime in from the end of May to into June, depending on how the state of Delaware rolls it out (updated info from previous replies in this post). As of now, I know we'll have games spit between different areas of the first and second floors, but there will be a dedicated Poker Room. I do know know the exact locations yet.
Once the the time gets closer, we'll have more information and we'll be letting everyone know.

Yes, people do win, but it's not announced over the PA. The management of the Player Rewards Club use our patron accounting software to get a list of all of the patrons that have their cards in the slot machines at that time and the program randomly starts picking people. The management of the Player Rewards Club should be getting a new list each time they have a drawing. Once they have picked a winner, a Prize Patrol will go to the location of the patron and award the patron the prize. If the patron is no longer at that location, I believe they pick another random player.
Sugrmama, if you are upset about your Slot Dollars or the way we handle the gift card promotion, I will gladly put you in touch with the management of the Player Rewards Club.

whats up with the walmart gift cards. i always have my card in the machines but never win. also i never hear them announce who won. i think these promotions keep us from winning at the slots. i keep giving them my money and they keep reducing my slot dollars. i could buy my own walmart gift cardsssssss with the money i leave at DP. i though they had to allow us to win at least a little(%) back. i just found out that they keep track of our wins/losses. i guess i don't lose enough to get the big DP bucks per month. i think we all need a new hobby!

Larry you are a good horseman with a good heart, sometimes too good a heart. I do animal rescue and have had to put down many a canine and have cried many a tear and have sworn I am done with it all many a time, that is until the next time.....take a breather, then come back, these horses need you, they need your kind of training, the kind that is done with love and heart . Please don't stay gone too long. I will miss you. God has a plan for you Larry....

The slots used are in a separate away from the main slot floors. These machines are set up for use for these slot tournaments only. Off hand I do not know if the points accumulated while playing in the slot tournament equal a real value in dollars.
