Since 2002, an amazing 27 Delaware Park maiden winners have gone on to win Graded stakes victories: 

AFLEET ALEX

(2005 - Grade I Preakness & Grade I Belmont)
(3-year-old champion)

The Florida-bred locally owned by Cash Is King, broke his maiden by 11 ¼-lengths going five and half furlongs in his career debut at Delaware Park on June 26, 2004.  The Tim Ritchey trainee, followed by posting a 12-length allowance victory going five and half furlongs at Delaware Park on July 12, 2004.  The following year, he notched victories in the Grade I Preakness Stakes and the Grade I Belmont Stakes before being named the 3-year-old champion.  Afleet Alex had a career record of eight wins from twelve starts with earnings of $2,765,800.

BARBARO

(2006 – Grade I Kentucky Derby)

The Kentucky-bred locally owned and bred by Lael Stables, broke his maiden by 8 ½ -lengths going one mile on the turf in his career debut at Delaware Park on October 4, 2005.  The following year, the Michael Matz trainee notched victories in the Grade I Florida Derby and the Grade I Kentucky Derby.  His career was cut short when he was injured in the Preakness Stakes. Barbaro spent eight months at the New Bolton Center and on January 29, 2007, succumbed to laminitis.

BELIEVE YOU CAN

Believe You Can (2011 – Grade III Tempted)

The Kentucky-bred owned and bred by Brereton C. Jones, broke her maiden by a neck going five furlongs at Delaware Park on July 12, 2011.  The J. Larry Jones trainee, followed by posting 4 ½-length triumph in a six furlong allowance at Delaware Park on August 16, 2011.  In her next outing, she won the Grade III Tempted Stakes at Belmont Park.  Believe You Can has a career record of four wins from six starts with earnings of $187,284.  She is currently in training.


BELLAMY ROAD

Bellamy Road (2005 – Grade I Wood Memorial)

The Florida-bred owned by Kinsman Stable, broke his maiden by 7 ½-lengths going six furlongs in his career debut at Delaware Park on August 3, 2004.  The following year, the Nicholas Zito won the Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct before finishing unplaced as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby.  Bellamy Road had a career record of four wins from seven starts with earnings of $811,400.

BOOKLET

Booklet (2002 – Grade I Fountain of Youth)

The Florida-bred, broke his maiden by a length going five furlongs at Delaware Park on July 10, 2001.  The following year, he won the Grade I Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park.  Booklet had a career record of seven wins from 14 starts with earnings of $989,460.

BROADWAYS ALIBI

Broadway’s Alibi (2012 – Grade II Forward Gal)

The Kentucky-bred owned and bred by Robsham Stables, broke her maiden by 7-lengths going six furlongs at Delaware Park on September 10, 2011.  In 2012, the Todd Pletcher trainee won the Grade II Forward Gal in her seasonal debut.  Broadway’s Alibi has a career record of three wins from four starts with earnings of $189,500.  She is currently in training.

COOL COAL MAN

Cool Coal Man (2008 – Grade II Fountain of Youth)

The Kentucky-bred owned by Robert LaPenta, broke his maiden by 10 ¼-lengths going a mile and seventy yards at Delaware Park on October 10, 2007.  The following year, the Nicholas Zito trainee notched a victory in the Grade II Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park.  Cool Coal Man had a career record of ten wins from thirty starts with earnings of $929,728.
