Since 2002, an amazing 27 Delaware Park maiden winners have gone on to win Graded stakes victories: 

PROUD SPELL

Proud Spell (2008 - Grade I Kentucky Oaks)
(3-year-old filly champion)

The Kentucky-bred owned and bred by Brereton C. Jones, broke her maiden by a half length going five furlongs in her career debut at Delaware Park on July 30, 2007.  The J. Larry Jones trainee, followed by posting a 5-length victory in the White Clay Creek at Delaware Park on September 15, 2007.  The following year, she notched victories in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks, the Grade II Delaware Oaks and the Grade I Alabama Stakes before being named the 3-year-old filly champion.  Proud Spell had a career record of seven wins from 13 starts with earnings of $2,131,610.

R HEAT LIGHTNING

R Heat Lightning (2010 – Spinaway)

The Florida-bred owned by Robsham Stables, broke her maiden by 5-lengths going five furlongs in her career debut at Delaware Park on July 5, 2010.  The Todd Pletcher trainee, followed by winning the Grade I Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga.  R Heat Lightning had a career record of four wins from eight starts with earnings of $952,800.

RULER ON ICE

Ruler on Ice (2011 – Grade I Belmont Stakes)

The Kentucky-bred owned by George and Lori Hall, broke his maiden by a head going six furlongs at Delaware Park on Ocotber 4, 2010.  The following year, the Kelly Breen trainee won the Grade I Belmont Stakes.  Ruler On Ice has a career record of three wins from twelve starts with earnings of $1,619,301.  He is currently in training.

SCRAPPY T

Scrappy T (2005 – Grade III Withers)

The Kentucky-bred owned by Marshall Dowell, broke his maiden by a neck going one mile at Delaware Park on October 31, 2004.  The following year, the W. Robert Bailes trainee won the Grade III Withers Stakes at Belmont Park and he finished second in the Grade I Preakness Stakes.  Scrappy T had a career record of three wins from 17 starts with earnings of $645,919.

SKY DIVA

Sky Diva (2008 – Grade I Frizette)

The Kentucky-bred owned by Puglisi racing, broke her maiden by 10-lengths going one mile in her career debut at Delaware Park on September 9, 2008.  The Steve Klesaris trainee, followed by winning the Grade I Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park.  Sky Diva had a career record of two wins from four starts with earnings of $484,000.

TAPIT

Tapit (2004 – Grade I Wood Memorial)

The Kentucky-bred owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, broke his maiden by 7 ¾-lengths going one mile in his career debut at Delaware Park on October 19, 2003.  The following year, the Michael Dickinson trainee won the Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct.  Tapit had a career record of three wins from six starts with earnings of $557,300.

UNION RAGS

Union Rags (2011 – Grade I Champagne)

The Kentucky-bred owned and bred by Phyllis Wyeth, broke his maiden by 1 ¾-lengths going five furlongs in his career debut at Delaware Park on July 12, 2011.  The Michael Matz trainee, followed by winning the Grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park and the Grade II Saratoga Special before running second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.  Union Rags has a career record of three wins from four starts with earnings of $858,800.
